How to Prepare for a Hong Kong Kung Fu Training Trip
A martial-arts training trip needs a different kind of preparation from a normal holiday. You are preparing not only to travel, but also to listen, move, recover, adapt to unfamiliar training and take part in a group project.

1. Understand what the trip is — and what it is not
Master Leo’s current Hong Kong Kung Fu Training Trip is planned for April 2027. It is a seven-day experience with five listed styles, training with five different Kung Fu masters, professional filming and places limited to 6–8 participants. The current project is not a normal sightseeing holiday with one martial-arts class added. It is a structured travel experience built around training, cultural discovery, filming and photography. It is also not a promise that one week will make a participant proficient in five styles. The programme currently lists Wing Chun, Hung Gar, Tai Chi, Chinese Wrestling and one secret style revealed on the trip. A responsible expectation is an intensive introduction to different teachers, training questions and movement languages. The first preparation step is therefore mental. Travel with curiosity, but do not arrive expecting to complete five separate martial-arts systems in seven days.
2. Share your training background honestly
The registration form asks for your martial-arts background, number of travellers and why you are interested. Use those fields to explain what you already train, how regularly you train and what you hope to learn. If you are new to one of the listed styles, say so. If you have an injury, limitation or training concern, ask about it before registering. A clear conversation helps the organisers understand the group and explain what preparation is appropriate. Master Leo’s public account places the beginning of his Wing Chun journey in Hong Kong in 1994 under Grandmaster Ip Chun. The project is connected to a real training story, but that does not remove the need to discuss each participant’s own experience and expectations.

3. Prepare for variety rather than repetition
A normal class routine gives you time to become familiar with one teacher’s language. This project moves between five styles. Prepare to listen closely and to accept that the same word may be used differently in different training environments. You may be asked to pay attention to structure, rhythm, balance, contact, footwork, relaxation or movement through space. The point is not to decide immediately which style is superior. The point is to notice what changes when the teacher and training task change. Bring enough general conditioning to train responsibly, but do not assume that strength or fitness alone prepares you for every practice. The final training expectations should be confirmed with the organisers before departure.
4. Ask for the final itinerary
The current page gives the project structure, but it does not publish a fixed day-by-day schedule. Final participating masters, locations, travel arrangements and terms are confirmed directly with registered participants. Before committing, ask: These are normal questions. They help distinguish the current public offer from details that have not yet been finalised.
- Which masters and locations are confirmed?
- What does the seven-day schedule look like?
- How much training is expected on each day?
- What level of physical preparation is recommended?
- What hotel and room arrangements apply?
- How will transport to filming locations work?
- What happens if a location or session changes?
5. Understand the filming element
The project includes a professional filming crew, short-video production for social media, professional video and photo editing, and visits to three Hong Kong locations for filming and photography. Master Leo’s supplied statement explains that he has travelled to meet and train in different martial arts and produces Wing Chun-meets-other-martial-arts videos. The filming element therefore belongs to the project’s origin, rather than being an unrelated extra. Ask how consent will be handled. Confirm whether every participant appears on camera, what footage they receive, how the footage may be used and whether there are any privacy choices. Training for a camera should remain safe and respectful of the people taking part.

6. Budget for the responsibilities outside the package
The current listed price is £1,800 per person. A £100 early-bird discount per person applies when booked before 30 November 2026, reducing the price to £1,700 per person, and the booking deadline is 30 December 2026. The current payment plan is a first payment of £500 followed by four monthly instalments of £325, totalling £1,800. The current page states that any remaining balance is due three months before departure, with the exact date following the final departure schedule. A £100 early-bird discount per person applies when booked before 30 November 2026, reducing the price to £1,700 per person; confirm directly which payment schedule applies to an early-bird booking. International flights, meals, travel insurance and personal expenses are not included. Budget for those separately. Confirm the terms that apply to your chosen rate before making a commitment.
7. Prepare questions about the five styles
The current five-style structure is: You do not need to arrive with expert knowledge of each one. A better preparation is to arrive with questions. What is this session designed to teach? How should a beginner approach it? What should a participant notice in the body? How does the practice relate to the teacher’s wider tradition? A good cross-style experience begins with respect. One week gives you a window into a practice. It does not give you the right to speak for an entire tradition.

8. Plan for recovery and group travel
Seven days of training, movement, travel and filming can be demanding. Ask about the expected pace and plan to recover between sessions. The project includes hotel accommodation and transport to filming locations, but participants still need to manage personal energy, meals, travel documents, insurance and personal expenses. The group is limited to 6–8 participants. That smaller format may help the experience stay personal, but it also means that each participant affects the rhythm of the group. Arrive ready to communicate, listen and respect different levels of experience.
9. Register interest before making assumptions
The best preparation is to read the full Hong Kong Kung Fu Training Trip offer and register your interest. Share your background, number of travellers and what you want from the project. The form begins a conversation. It does not replace the final itinerary, travel terms, consent arrangements or confirmation of participating masters.
